U.S. Rep. Mia Love of Utah’s 4th district brought passion and courage to the stage of the Potomac Ballroom, starting with quoting Eleanor Roosevelt, “You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face.” Love spoke about a number of abilities she believes are distinctly American in nature. “If you are poor, if you are black, if you are female, the cards are not stacked against you,” Love said, “You decide your future in America.” She also hit on the misinformation that big government helps people. She claimedthat liberal policies trap citizens in a circle of government dependency, keeping them within the system. “What Democrats never tell people is that they give you exactly what you need to stay where you are,” Love said, “Nothing further.” Love stated that the conservative movement is the only way to stop the growing economic problems in the United States. She spurred the CPAC crowd on, telling them they can’t be scared to fight. According to Love, conservatives need to look fear in the face. Conservatives need to stare the “Liberal doomsday media” in the face and fight for the truth and independence for everyday Americans. On the 2016 elections, Love stated. “We cannot be a party of broad generalizations.” Love says that conservatives must demand policy and actual results, no matter the difficulty. However, in this election cycle, there have been far more generalizations and name calling than actual policy. “As conservatives we must expect more from our leaders.” Mia Love is the first Haitian American and the first African American to be elected to Congress from the state of Utah.
