The Quad on Delaware is one of many apartments primarily populated by university students. While it’s not strictly owned by the University of Minnesota (and by extension, not considered University housing), the Quad is one of the immediate apartment complexes that are adjacent to the university. For those unfamiliar with the Quad on Delaware, it might be comparable to other adjacent apartments such as The Arrow, The Link, or The Wahu – all of which are also primarily inhabited by students. The Quad on Delaware is conveniently located near campus in the Stadium Village area, a few blocks past the Chipotle and Dominos in that area.
As some readers may have heard (or may not have heard), there are growing concerns about mold in the Quad on Delaware apartment complex. Already, many denizens within the Quad on Delaware have been relocated to other apartment units by the Quad on Delaware management. This writer has also met first hand several inhabitants who have reported becoming sick due to these cases of mold.
While mold is often an alarming situation for any person to deal with, the extent of this mold issue is currently unknown. At best, these could be isolated cases, restricted to a few apartment units here and there throughout the Quad on Delaware. At worse, however, this could be a widespread issue plaguing many residents. One thing to note when examining these sorts of issues is that the information we have on the issue is provided merely by those who have vocalized their experiences. It could certainly be the case that many are currently dealing with this problem but have not been able or inclined to express their opinions.
One other thing to note, perhaps to the detriment of the Quad on Delaware, is that this writer has not heard of burgeoning mold issues or similar problems at other apartment complexes (such as those previously listed). Again, while it could certainly be the case that these other apartments may have isolated or expansive mold problems, I have not heard at the least.
Some residents were asked to comment on the current mold situation but many declined wanting to maintain anonymity. Some readers may read into this and may infer more nefarious reasons from the Quad on Delaware for why this may be the case, but it doesn’t appear that there are any greater reasons beyond individuals wanting to be more private in their vocalizations. The information collected in this article however was cultivated from comments and anecdotes made by individuals currently living at the Quad on Delaware.
With these events in mind, it does remain to be seen what impact this may have on the Quad on Delaware. The Quad on Delaware remains one of the more visible apartments with convenient placement nearby campus. Many may take the risk of these anecdotes and may lease with the apartment complex. Many may realize that renting and housing remains tricky and competitive in the densely populated cities. Still, others may heed these risks and choose to avoid the Quad on Delaware at all costs. At the very least, I imagine many may move the Quad on Delaware far from their first choice of places to live.
Ultimately, it may behoove readers to conduct more research before choosing the Quad on Delaware as a place to rent. While, as a general rule of thumb, it’s always prudent to research where one may live or plan to live, it might be worthwhile to search social media for more anecdotes or key words (such as mold) when looking up the Quad.
