Insomnia Cookies is a nationwide cookie (and ice cream) bakery. Insomnia Cookies (as the name suggests) is widely and primarily known for their delicious signature cookies and their late night store and delivery hours. However, Insomnia Cookies also serves delicious ice cream to pair with their fantastic cookies.
Insomnia Cookies is an iconic late night college staple that has become prominent to the face of Dinkytown. Insomnia Cookies is located on the corner of SE 4th St and 14th Ave SE, adjacent to Goldy’s Locker Room, Bonchon, and Blarney’s. While well known for their late night operating hours, they do open at 11 during the week and at noon during the weekends, so they’re able to satiate those day time sweet tooths as well.
Insomnia Cookies is known for their delicious signature cookies. Some of these include double chocolate chunk cookies, snickerdoodle cookies, and unique cranberry white chocolate cookies. Insomnia Cookies also offers a wide variety of cookie mediums. Consumers are able to buy a few cookies if they like, but also boxes of cookies for friends or parties or even large cookie pizzas to share with others (or eat alone, if they really please). For our more animal conscious readers, Insomnia Cookies also offers a good selection of delicious vegan cookies. The vegan double chocolate chunk looked particularly tempting!
If you really enjoy cookies with ice cream, Insomnia Cookies comes prepared. Ice cream lovers are able to upgrade their cookies and add scoops of ice cream or if they’re really in need, they’re able to buy an entire pint of ice cream as well to pair with their cookies. Insomnia Cookies even offers ice cream scoops on brownies as well. If you’re really looking to treat yourself, Insomnia Cookies also offers ice cream cookie sandwiches – scoops of ice cream sandwiched between two of their great signature cookies.
When I had visited this Insomnia Cookies, the employees had declined to comment, but they were quite flattered that a student newspaper would be interested in writing an article regarding them. I could tell these employees worked in a friendly and welcoming environment and enjoyed serving cookies to late night college students.
Personally, I ordered the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup and the S’mores cookies and it definitely lived up to the quality and customer service that Insomnia Cookies offers. These cookies were served in warm, melty, goodness. These cookies even started to melt to each other in the small bag with how soft they were. Even after I had walked home after some ten minutes, they were still warm and incredibly soft. I had to save one for the following day but it had reheated without a problem. When I had visited this location, there was a steady flow of people visiting that were all quickly served.
Insomnia cookies, in relation to other iconic eats in Dinkytown, definitely fills a niche and well needed role. While there are a few places that also sell sweets in Dinkytown, none quite fill that feeling of a warm cookie late at night. Other places in Dinkytown often specialize in colder sweets, such as Mango Mango with their fruity ice creams. Boba tea places also dot Dinkytown, but to compare boba tea with cookies would definitely be misplaced. With this niche role filled, it’s no wonder that Insomnia Cookies has been able to cement itself into the Dinkytown consciousness.
In summary, Insomnia Cookies is an excellent establishment that will surely remain an iconic staple to the Dinkytown Experience. For those uninitiated with Insomnia Cookies, this writer definitely recommends trying them at least once.
