The Blue Door Pub is exactly as the name describes, blue doors and all. The Blue Door Pub is a Minnesota domestic pub, known for their take on the iconic Minnesota Jucy Lucy. The Blue Door Pub had originally opened its doors in St. Paul, but now has several locations in the greater Twin Cities area. The Blue Door Pub in the Como neighorhood can be a lively and exciting location derived from its college demographic, but it can also be a quiet and enjoyable sit down restaurant during other times.
The Blue Door Pub advertises, and is most famously known for, their take on the Jucy Lucy, their “Blucy”. The Blue Door Pub’s Blucy features blue cheese, instead of traditional cheddar or american cheese Jucy Lucys, but they also sell a variety of Jucy Lucy creations and variations. Their menu centers around classic American pub grilled and fried foods, with a variety of burgers, fried chicken sandwiches, wings, fries, and traditional appetizers. Continuing in the theme of their pub, they have a selection of Minnesota domestic and national beers on tap or bottle. Overall, the Blue Door Pub’s menu is a classic, tried and true, variety of foods with their own unique and delicious creations to help mix up that want for a classic American burger and fries.
When I entered the Blue Door Pub, I was greeted quickly and met with friendly service. I came for lunch and ordered the Bacon Blucy, which features cheddar cheese and chopped bacon inside the burger. Jucy Lucys can often be more difficult to cook, as the cheese interior can affect traditional tell-tale signs of burger “doneness”. However, my burger was cooked to a lovely medium. They did not skimp out on fries or pickles. The atmosphere was pleasant without overly loud music. One could relax and enjoy a burger or beer and leave feeling refreshed and satisfied. They have spacious seating and outdoor sitting as well, weather permitting.
The Blue Door Pub Como location sits near the corner of Como Avenue and 15th Ave SE. They’re adjacent to a few other delicious establishments, such as Ramen Kazama, Black Coffee, and Waffle Bar. While they do have a small parking lot, but also street parking around the area is convenient. This Blue Door Pub location even offers delivery and pick up, though I would highly recommend dining in for the full and nicer experience. Price wise, one can expect to order anywhere between $15 – $25 for a meal, though the portions are worth it both in quantity and quality.
Overall, I would highly recommend the Blue Door Pub (Como location). The Blue Door Pub during the day can be a pleasant way to sit down and enjoy a burger, fries, and a beer. At night, it can be more lively, but still an enjoyable place to grab drinks with plenty of food options. The Blue Door Pub will surely stick around and continue to be a Minnesota and Como neighborhood staple.
