Bober Tea, a boba shop located in Dinkytown next to Target is a perfect combination of a place to study as well as a place to go with friends and family. When you walk in, you are met with bright vibrant pink decorations across the entire shop. There are so many unique decorations throughout the store elevating the entire environment.
When first walking into the boba shop you are met with a wall of a variety of pink flowers on the right that with a white neon sign saying “stay humble hustle hard drink Bober tea.” It is a great place to take a photo and really sets the environment of a small cafe. As you continue to walk through on the front facing wall there is another photo opportunity where there are a pair of pink angel wings with another white neon sign “just you, me and bober tea.” you can also see three phone boxes that make all the sounds of a normal phone box. There is also a hot air balloon where you can sit on a papasan and attached the balloon are origami flower streamers that wrap around the chair decorated with gold detailing.
Business hours are from 11am to 9pm everyday with a special offer on Tuesdays: with any purchase of drink, you can also get a mochi doughnut for $1! The drinks have a few categories including the brown sugar collection, fresh fruit teas, milk teas, Vietnamese iced coffee, lattes, and different tea series. All of these options also come with a variety of different inclusion options. Bober tea offers a large array of drinks and inclusions for customers to truly have freedom in what they drink.
Bober tea also offers mochi doughnuts. For those who are unfamiliar, mochi doughnuts are Japanese doughnuts mixing cake and mochi. Mochi is a chewy rice cake made from rice flour or from mochigome. Bober tea changes their flavors on a weekly basis and comes in either individual, box of three, 6 and 12. The flavors for this week included fruity pebbles, taro, churro, coconut, raspberry vanilla and black sesame. The ones I got were taro, fruity pebble, raspberry vanilla and black sesame.
I shared them with a friend:
“ ”
My personal favorite has always been the taro because I grew up eating taro and had always been one of my favorite treats. While it is my favorite, the raspberry vanilla was also extremely good! It was sweet and really tasted like raspberry when I was expecting a more artificial taste.
The drink that I got was a supreme strawberry green tea with passion fruit boba. The drink was extremely sweet so I wouldn’t recommend it to people who don’t like sweeter drinks. It was not the smooth green tea consistency that I was expecting, but was still enjoyable and the popping boba really added positively adding a new flavor to the drink that mixed well. The barista suggested adding strawberry boba as well. My friend who also got the same said, “the puree was not very well mixed, it felt very clumpy and the tapioca pearls were very stiff and did not mesh well, whereas the popping boba was really good.”
Overall, I really enjoyed the experience of being inside the shop as it really brought my mood up instantly. The mochi doughnuts were amazing and would be the main reason I would go back to the store. The fresh fruit tea was too sweet for my liking, but in the past I have tried a brown sugar milk tea and enjoyed it. My only critique was the tapioca pearls which were too hard to chew and didn’t taste very good with the drink. I would definitely recommend stopping by Bober Tea!
