Let the Festivities Begin: A Guide to University of Minnesota’s 2022 Homecoming Week

After an exciting first few weeks of school, Homecoming Week is just around the corner at the University of Minnesota. The festivities kick off on Monday, September 26th and culminate with the homecoming football game against Purdue on Saturday, October 1st. Outlined below are all the exciting events students have the opportunity to partake in throughout the week.

Monday, September 26th

The homecoming week begins with Craft Night in the Great Hall from 5:00PM to 8:00PM. At this event, students will have the opportunity to utilize screen printing equipment. Students can screen print on T-shirts or Tote bags. Those who would rather the opportunity to their hand at jewelry making will have the opportunity to do so as well.  Additionally, LiquidMotion, a Minnesota based Bar Service and Beverage company will be providing a full mocktail bar.

Tuesday, September 27th

The second day of Homecoming Week offers students the opportunity to give back to their community by participating in a blood drive hosted by the Student Unions and Activities and the American Red Cross. Students can participate in the blood drive in several locations: Coffman Union, Great Hall & St. Paul Student Center, and the Northstar Ballroom. The blood drive will run from 10:00AM until 4:00PM. Tuesday night will be a night of laughs as comedians Mo Welch and Larry Owens will be performing at the Ted Mann Concert Hall at 7:00PM. UMN Students are able to bring one non UMN student guest to the performance, and it is recommended that attendees arrive early to ensure they get a seat to this highly anticipated show. 

Wednesday, September 28th

Wednesday night will be a night for students to gather for a fun night of bingo- with special host Mo Heart from RuPaul’s Drag Race. The Drag Bingo event will be held in Coffman Memorial Union at 7:30PM.

Thursday, September 29th

Potterheads at the University of Minnesota will have a chance to show off their knowledge of the Harry Potter books at Thursday’s trivia event. For those who love the series, this event is a great opportunity to meet others who share the same enchantment with the books.  The event will test students’ knowledge of the seven book series in Coffman Memorial Union’s Goldy Gameroom at 7:00PM.

Friday, September 30th

Friday will undoubtedly be an exciting day as the campus comes together to celebrate the Homecoming Parade. The parade will begin at University Avenue SE and 12th Avenue SE and continue through University Avenue SE and Walnut Street SE. For those with families, the Donhowe Building Lot will have fun activities, cookies, and more for the kids. The fun will continue on Friday night with a free concert on the Coffman Front Plaza. KayCyy will be performing and BKTherula will be opening.  KayCyy is a rapper from Minnesota and has worked with several well known artists including Kanye West, Lil Baby, Lil Wayne, and Travis Scott. He was recently nominated for a Grammy for his work on Kanye West’s latest album Donda. The concert will begin at 7:30PM.

Saturday, October 1st

The culminating event of the week is the football game against Purdue. The game will begin at 11:00AM at Huntington Bank Stadium. Before the game, students and alumni can gather at the McNamara Alumni Center for Ski-U-Mania where they watch the coronation of the homecoming royalty and many more fun activities.
